Fragmentation, Fragmentation of Poland, Internal fragmentation. You can also ask user Paulus for help, maybe he'll visit this topic.

English-speaking historians tend to use the term ‘regionalization’ or the ‘partitional period’ to describe the political settlement that occurred as a result of Boleslaw Krzywousty’s hereditary statute. That said, over the years I have come across a number of alternative phrases which more or less convey the idea of Poland’s political particularism which prevailed until the early fourteenth century. These are: regional division/separation/partition, division into petty principalities, subdivision of Poland, fragmentation of the Polish kingdom into a conglomerate of weak principalities etc.
Best wishes, Paulus

Wouldn't the phrase "partition" suggested the external causes?

Very much so, but only in the context of the Polish history after 1772. Otherwise the term is used freely to describe the splintering of larger medieval territorial polities into smaller units.

That's exactly what I ment. I know that the phrase has been used in the context of what had happened in Poland in XVIII century. Thanks for the explanation.

The english term "Provincial Dispertion" is also (but very rarely) used, and "Fragmentation Period" or "Division in Provinces" as well. So as we can see it clearly - plethora of names are being circulated in history books Norman Davis in his well-known 'God's Playground' for example, uses the term of "Period of feudal fragmentation"...

Never been a great fan of Norman yet here’s what he said in his book:
‘… For practical reasons, their rule can be divided into three distinct periods, The first, to the death of Krzywousty in 1138, embraces the period of primitive monarchy in which the Piast princes succeeded each other in direct line. The second, from 1138 to 1320, was a period of fragmentation, or, as it is presently referred to, of ‘regionalization’ – where several branches of the dynasty fought for supremacy over the provinces of a divided country. The third, which began with Lokietek’s coronation in Cracow in 1320, was followed by the process of unification and by the growth of permanent institutions’.

I'm far from being an expert in terms of middle ages, and equally far from critisizing Norman Davis' books. I've just wanted to point out that there is no official translation of polish term "rozbicie dzielnicowe" and there are many English equivalents of it.

Until the early fourteenth century, Poland had its own political particularism, and I've found a few different words that all get to that idea. capybara clicker
