QUOTE(krzystofer @ 16/06/2010, 10:12)
QUOTE(historix49)
Inflation is derivative of money supply.

The views on inflation lie beyond the scope of our discussion, but the money supply as a major determinant of inflation is viewed by just one set of inflation theories. Another view consider the change in price level as directly influencing inflation.

What do you mean: another view? Inflation means that prices go higher. It's the definition of the proces. The only question is: how fast?

Phenomenon of inflation is described in various terms. Some of the scholars ascribe the inflation to the money supply - such view is shared by the Austrian School of Economists and Monetarists.
The others, including Keynes, looked at CPI and explained the inflation by the changes in prices.

For statistic purposes, inflation is usually described by the change in CPI, whereas money supply is linked to 'monetary expansion'. Obviously, both terms cannot be confused.

But our very interesting discussion does not change the fact that factors contributing economic growth listed above as options to choose are quite irrelevant to the reality. smile.gif

Indeed. I believe author himself would like us to see the topic with a pinch of salt. smile.gif
