Procopius w "Historii wojen" napisanej okolo 550 r. wymienil lud "Σουάβοι" (Suavi).

"When finally the Thoringi saw that they were being fiercely cut to pieces and when their king Hermenefredo had taken to flight, they turned their backs and came to the stream Onestrudem [Unstrut]. And there such a slaughter of the Thoringis took place that the bed of the stream was filled with heaps of corpses, and the Franks crossed upon them as if on a bridge to the further shore. The victory being won they took possession of that country and brought it under their control."

550 AD (Procopius)
"And in Gaul there flow numerous rivers, among which are the Rhone and the Rhine. But the course of these two being in opposite directions, the one empties into the Tuscan Sea, while the Rhine empties into the ocean. And there are many lakes in that region, and this is where the Germans lived of old, a barbarous nation, not of much consequence in the beginning, who are now called Franks. Next to these lived the Arborychi, who, together with all the rest of Gaul, and, indeed, Spain also, were subjects of the Romans from of old. And beyond them toward the east were settled the Thuringian barbarians, Augustus, the first emperor, having given them this country. And the Burgundians lived not far from them toward the south, and the Suavi [Σουάβοι] also lived beyond the Thuringians, and the Alamani, powerful nations. All these were settled there as independent peoples in earlier times."

631 AD (Einhard)
"In the tenth year of the rule of Dagoberti it was reported to him that an army of Winidorum [Sclavi] raided Thoringiam. He left, therefore, with his forces from Mettis and crossed the Ardenna towards Magantiam in order to cross the Rhenum there. In addition to dukes and counts he also had the choicest cohort of brave men from Neuster and Burgundia. There appeared now emissaries of the Saxones in front of Dagobertum asked him to exempt them form the taxes that they [normally] paid to the [Frankish] state. In exchange for that they promised with great zeal and success to defend [against the Winidi] and the Francorum country on the Winidis border to protect. Dagobertus fulfilled this request, after a/the council of the Neustrasiorum and the Saxonibus emissaries gave their promise, in accordance with their custom by hitting [their] weapons, for the entire Saxonibus nation. Though, the promise was not successful, the taxes that they used to pay remained unpaid in accordance with Dagoberti order. Chlothario the Old had required them to pay annual taxes of 500 cows which taxes Dagoberto now exempted them from.

Jordanes opisujac wydarzenia z okolo 470 r. tak pisal o Suavi.

"After a certain time, when the wintry cold was at hand, the river Danube was frozen over as usual. For a river like this freezes so hard that it will support like a solid rock an army of foot-soldiers and wagons and sledges and whatsoever vehicles there may be – nor is there need of skiffs and boats. So when Thiudimer, king of the Goths, saw that it was frozen, he led his army across the Danube and appeared unexpectedly to the Suavi from the rear. Now this country of the Suavi has on the east the Baiovari, on the west the Franks, on the south the Burgundians and on the north the Thuringians. With the Suavi there were present the Alamanni, then their confederates, who also ruled the Alpine heights, whence several streams flow into the Danube, pouring in with a great rushing sound. Into a place thus fortified King Thiudimer led his army in the winter-time and conquered, plundered and almost subdued the race of the Suavi as well as the Alamanni, who were mutually banded together."
