My first post on the forum. Sorry, I dont know Polish, yet I have interest in Polish History related to Ottoman Empire and precisely to Crimean Khanate.

I joined the forum to find books on Crimean Khanate written by Poles.(online source prefered, cause we dont have access to Polish sources here).

I know Turkish, Tatar, Ottoman besides a few European languages. I might help the forum members in issues related to Turkish-Tatar history, especially in translation of sources.

Do You know any books written by Władysław A. Serczyk or Leszek Podhorodecki? I don't know if they have been translated into English...

Thank you, I'll look into their books. I have in English Dariusz Kolodziejczyk's The Crimean Khanate and Poland-Lithuania. That only helped me regarding to official messages sent between Kings and Khans.

Yes, well, both of them ( I mean Serczyk and Podhorodecki) were specializing in Ukrainian matters, cossacs and also in relations among Crimean Tartars, Poland (by Poland I mean the Polish-Lituanian state from those times, we call it RON in abbreviation- in Polish Rzeczpospolita Obojga Narodów- Republic of Both Nations) Moscow and Turkey. Also with Sweden, but it usually was not the south-east war region.
You can also look for a book by Dariusz Skorupa. He wrote a book Stosunki polsko-tatarskie 1595-1623, 2004 which means: Polish-Tartar relations 1595-1623, issued in 2004.
And of course You know that in wikipedia under Crimean Khanate You can find some bibliographic sources.
If I find something else I'll inform you.
Meanwhile- good luck with Your research.

Salve,
welcome to the forum - smile.gif

there is a relative plenty of materials on the Crimean Tatars written by Poles on the web but few of those are in English - this book from XIX, obviously a late source for the prior, XVI-XVII c. epoch of warfare, but has some firsthand notes on the Crimean Tatars customs http://archive.org/details/newrussiajourne01holdgoog
article on the captives & Crimean Tatars http://www.econ.hit-u.ac.jp/~areastd/medit...w/pdf/18/10.pdf
this book you can find on google books: Annals of the Turkish Empire:From 1591 to 1659 (1832)
In print eg
I think one of the more interesting books is this one by Donald Ostrowski http://www.amazon.com/Muscovy-Mongols-Cros...69922981&sr=1-2
another
Another, 'Warfare, State and Society on the Black Sea Steppe, 1500–1700' by Brian Davis is also an interesting intro to the subject of warfare in the region. There is also a very detailed article: L. J. D. Collins, “The military organization and tactics of the Crimean Tatars, 16th–17th centuries,” include..d in 'War, Technology and Society in the Middle East,' - this article takes into account plenty of primary sources and scholarly material written in Polish prior to 1990s or so.

On my blog I gave a link to this fantastic XVI century source, written by the Polish Tatars themselves http://dariocaballeros.blogspot.de/2012/06...-of-poland.html

I think that the best books for Alienoz are works by Dariusz Kołodziejczyk:

1. idem, Ottoman-Polish Diplomatic Relations (15th–18th Century): An Annotated Edition of ‘Ahdnames and Other Documents, Leyden 2000;

2. idem, The Crimean Khanate and Poland-Lithuania. International Diplomacy on the European Periphery (15th-18th Century). A Study of Peace Treaties Followed by Annotated Documents, Leyden 2011.

This books were published by Brill.
